Bodycam Footage Shows Deadly San Francisco Barbershop Shootout With Police
The San Francisco Police Department held a town hall Thursday night in which they released body camera footage from a fatal March 21 shooting in a barbershop.
Bodycam video from San Francisco's Crocker Amazon neighborhood shows the death of Jehad Eid, 21, of Suisun City, California, in a Geneva Avenue barbershop, KGO-TV first reported. Police say Eid fired nine rounds from his handgun at them after they came to the business when his family reported he had threatened them and possessed a firearm.
When officers confronted Eid in the barbershop, "they observed Eid sitting; he stood up and shot at officers," Captain Valerie Matthews of the San Francisco Fire Department told KGO-TV Thursday night.
Police returned fire with 26 rounds, and Eid was shot a total of 18 times.
The Eid family issued a statement Thursday acknowledging the fatal shooting of Jehad. "We understand the consequences of Jehad's actions. We stand by the officer's decision to use lethal force," they told KVAL-TV.
But not everyone was in agreement with the police response: One barbershop employee allegedly screamed, "I got kids" as Eid and the police began shooting at each other. Four additional people were shot during the crossfire in the barbershop.
"He was a very sweet kid," said the uncle of 21-year-old Jehad Eid. "He did not have to die."
The San Francisco District Attorney is reviewing the case for wrongdoing and to identify "whose bullets hit who," said San Francisco Police Chief William Scott in a statement.
