How Dakota Johnson Kept Her Bright Red Lip From Overpowering Her Look
Hello, pretty lady! Dakota Johnson rocked a bold red lip at the 2015 Guggenheim International Gala Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in NYC. And thanks to a little 1930s-inspired makeup magic, the statement hue didn’t overwhelm her shimmering, white Dior dress one bit.
“The deep red matte lip [was] complemented with defined eyebrows to frame her eyes,” celeb makeup artist Lisa Houghton tells Us Weekly. But to keep the effect from going too retro, Houghton added an unexpected color to the Fifty Shades of Grey star’s eyes. “Shimmery golden eyeshadow gave it a modern edge,” she tells Us.

Houghton also shared a fun fact about the actress (who was joined by Emily Blunt, also in Dior): Her lashes are so lush, she doesn’t need falsies to amp up the drama. “Dakota has beautifully long natural lashes, so I left them natural,” she says. “[I only added] Diorshow Lash Maximizer and the best classic, black Diorshow Mascara.”
