    Kelly Ogle Injured | Health

Kelly Ogle told the public about his accident through his Facebook page. Quoting:

    Hey Guys,

I know I kind of mysteriously disappeared last week. That’s because I’ve been in the hospital, actually three hospitals, since last Sunday night.

A week ago, my wife and I were building ceiling shelves in the garage when I got my foot hung up in my 8-foot ladder and went crashing to the floor.

I knew the instant I hit the concrete something bad had happened; the pain was excruciating! Teri called 9-1-1 and then called our great neighbors, who came running like they always do. They took turns holding my leg as still as possible while I groaned.

The Paramedics arrived and gingerly moved me onto a backboard while getting some medicine flowing. It barely made a dent in the pain during our ride to Mercy.

The ambulance arrived at Mercy about 25 minutes later, and the folks in the ER were quick to get the heavy-duty pain medicine “on-board” and I eventually dozed off hearing speculation that I might have broken my femur.

I don’t remember the X-ray, which showed my femur to be OK, or the CT Scan which showed something else.

At 2 a.m., the ER Docs told Teri my hip socket was badly damaged. In fact, the word “shattered” was used, and they also said that I needed to be transferred to the OU Medical Center Trauma Center stat! (I added the “stat” part because it sounds cool.)

At noon Monday, I was rolled in for a 4-hour surgery to repair my hip socket. My care at OU Med was terrific and included a newly remodeled room with a sweet view!

Now the next phase has started — recovering.
For the next eight weeks, I need to use a walker or a wheelchair with only light pressure on my left toes. At this point, my left leg and foot are numb, and basically dead weight — apparently because my sciatic nerve down my back and leg is reacting to the trauma. I have feeling in the leg, I just can’t move it much. I’m told, oftentimes it takes several days or weeks for the nerve to settle back down. I wake up every day hoping I will have more control over my leg. I’m an impatient “patient,” so waiting is hard for me, but I have therapy to keep me distracted.

I miss you guys and my KWTV – NEWS 9 Family and will be back as soon as I can hobble up onto the anchor desk! I will be going live on Facebook if you care to keep up with my progress or want to offer encouragement!
