Teen had to learn to walk again after being viciously raped in an alley The Sun

A TEENAGER who was stalked and raped in a brutal attack needed rehab to help her walk and talk again, prosecutors have said.

The 18-year-old Polish student was visiting family in Chicago when she was allegedly raped by Rufus Carson, 38, after he dragged her into an alley.

Carson had been expected to accept a plea bargain that would have seen him jailed for 30 years but told a judge in the city he wants the case to go to trial.

He tried to walk out of the court as Judge Thaddeus Wilson detailed allegations against him and was eventually removed, NBC5 reports.

Carson is accused of what prosecutors say is a "heinous" attack on his victim, who was on a student work visa in Chicago in 2018.

She took a Blue Line train around 7 am on August 26 to work at a Starbucks in the city's Noble Square neighbourhood but when she left the train, Carson followed her.

CCTV played in court shows Carson on the platform then later getting on an escalator behind the victim and he was later filmed following her on the street.

He eventually followed her into an alley, grabbed her and put her in a chokehold as audio from CCTV footage captured her screaming.

'LEFT FOR DEAD'

Ten minutes into the video, Carson can be seen emerging from the alley and adjusting his trousers.

He looks for potential witnesses before returning into the area without the cameras and continues the attacks.

According to NBC5, officials say audio captures her screams for roughly 20 minutes.

Prosecutor Mikki Miller said the victim was later found by two construction workers who thought she was dead such was the severity of her injuries.

She had been unconscious for an hour and a half and when an ambulance arrived she briefly regained consciousness then told first responders she had been raped, said the prosecutor.

The victim was in a coma for several days and had to re-learn how to walk and talk during her recovery.

Carson was arrested 24 hours after the attack, still wearing the same clothes, which had the victim’s blood still on them.

He chose not to watch video of the attack in court but acknowledged he knew there was DNA evidence in the case

His trial is now scheduled for January and he faces up to 120 years in prison.

Neighbours of the victim dubbed ‘Warrior Woman’ by them have raised £20,000 for her on a GoFundMe page.
