A TOP racehorse trainer has been arrested by cops probing sex assault claims.

The revered equestrian has had his licence to work suspended by the British Horseracing Authority while investigations continue.

Police nicked the 61-year-old man at the elite stables where he has raised hundreds of winning horses.

Former stable employees came forward to accuse the trainer of sexual assault after the suicide of one of their colleagues, sources said.

A man was tragically found hanged in the equine hub last month.

The trainer was left a suicide note and found the body, The Sun was told.

A source said: “The trainer is a very well known name in horseracing and his arrest has sent shockwaves through the sport. It has been a tumultuous few months.”

The respected trainer - who we are not naming for legal reasons - has been behind top-tier victories for decades.

His well-known nags have won many Group 1 races and scooped hundreds of thousands of pounds in prize money.

The trainer has also sent horses to win elite meetings overseas.

His established training centre boasts all of the latest hi-tech facilities which make him one of the most popular and successful horse trainers in the business.

Last night Surrey Police said: “On Friday 10 June a 61-year-old man from Epsom was arrested in Epsom on suspicion of sexual assault.

“He has since been released on police bail pending further investigation.”

The British Horseracing Authority said: “The BHA does not comment on investigations or speculation surrounding possible investigations.”
