WWII veteran Frank Manchel Dies in a Plane At Age 95
A World War II veteran, Frank Manchel, died on Sunday, May 5, during his flight home to California following an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. He was 95.
Manchel was aboard the chartered American Airlines jet when he collapsed and passed away. The plane landed about an hour later in San Diego.
FOX5 San Diego reported that several people on board attempted to resuscitate him before he was pronounced dead.
His son, Bruce Manchel, told the news station,
The fella who caught my dad came up to me and said, 'Listen, your dad, within 5 seconds of having him in my arms was gone.'
Before his death, the WWII veteran spent the weekend in the American capital, on a trip sponsored by Honor Flight San Diego.
Passengers draped an American flag over him after he passed away. The veterans stopped and saluted his body before stepping off the plane.
