YORKSHIRE Tea have bagged a huge win in the cup — as Sun readers vote it best brew.

The northern beverage maker steamed ahead of its rivals in our exclusive poll to mark National Tea Day.

It lifted the tea-stigeous title after one in four readers (25 per cent) said it was their favourite.

Steeped in second place was Tetley which got 17 per cent of votes — while PG Tips came third on 16 per cent.

Posh Twinings was fourth, with nine per cent, with Typhoo going off the boil slightly on two per cent.

Just over a quarter of 13,000 readers polled said they either did not like tea — the nation’s favourite drink — or favoured another blend.

More than 100 million cuppas are downed every day in the UK.

Yorkshire Tea, whose slogan is “Let’s have a proper brew”, came top across all ages up and down the nation.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and former Coronation Street star, was unsurprised.

The ex-actress, who played Tricia Armstrong in the soap in the 1990s, said: “Yorkshire folk didn’t need a poll to tell us what we know already — Yorkshire tea is the finest in the world. It brings people together for a cuppa across the globe, reminding people of God’s own county.”

Brian Berry, of the Federation of Master Builders, said it helps fuel the nation’s workers. He added: “Good British tea like Yorkshire Tea is the lifeblood of builders.”

Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell said: "I’ve lived in Essex, Sussex, the Royal County of Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, London and, of course, Yorkshire.

"But I’ve only ever drank Yorkshire Tea. Not Sussex tea. Not London tea. Not Berkshire tea. But Yorkshire.

"And so, it seems does everyone else. I'm not surprised. It does make the best cuppa. And does lots of other good besides. After all, when we Brits need some counselling, solace, or just a good chat, what do we do but put the kettle on? And what tea do we use? Well, Yorkshire, of course.

"I recently presented some – in Paris! – to the lead bishop of the American Episcopal Church. And I have some in my cupboard right now. In fact, I think I’ll stop this and make a brew.  Praise the Lord for Yorkshire tea!"

Yorkshire Tea said: “We hope Sun readers and all fans of a proper brew will raise a mug or two to celebrate National Tea Day with us.”
